"Facilitating and coordinating congregational efforts to promote social justice locally and around the world"
Social Justice is an essential
element of the journey to personal spiritual growth and transformation.
First Unitarian Society is implementing a governance change, with that shift in thinking, the Social Justice Program has reflected on its past and envisioned a new future. The way that we organize ourselves around the various social justice initiatives has changed. A list of ministry teams is available here for download: Social Justice Ministry Teams
The mission of the Social Justice
Program is to
engage in proactive, progressive social action and community outreach that
integrates social justice work into the overall life of the congregation and
produces a significant impact on targeted social justice issues at local,
national, and international levels.
We will…
- foster
Unitarian Universalist values,
- collaborate
with the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Unitarian Universalist
Service Committee,
- and
collaborate with interfaith and community partners.
The Social Justice Program is active with the following initiatives:
The newly formed Social Justice Advisory Group works to develop and support opportunities for the First Unitarian Society to have an impact on our broader community, both locally and abroad. The Social Justice Advisory Group is responsible for the following tasks: developing a strong strategic plan, providing funding for new initiatives, and serving as the overall coordinating body of the social justice program.
Contribute your expertise, your
energy, or your passion to help make this a better community and world. There are
opportunities for both short and long term commitments. We especially welcome your insights and thoughts about the future of social justice here at FUS.
