"Recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of every human being, we as Unitarian Universalists hold that access to affordable, habitable housing is a fundamental right in a just society."
In 1988 the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) passed a resolution calling on congregations to address homelessness in their communities. FUS responded!
For over twenty years, FUS has served meals to homeless men at the Porchlight, Inc. Men's Shelter at Grace Episcopal Church on the capital square.
More recently, FUS has served as an Interfaith Hospitality Network buddy congregation to Christ Presbyterian Church.
You can make a difference, share your warmth and welcome with a person in need!
Answer the call to recognize the inherent worth and dignity of every person by connecting with one of our Service Project Team Leaders:
- The Road Home’s Interfaith Hospitality Network Family Shelter Program providing meals and overnight support at Christ Presbyterian Church, four weeks per year.
- Our Shelter Coordinator is Nancy Kosseff, 238-1337
- Our Meals Coordinators are Ann Boyer, 233-7202 and Judy Thorpe, 772-5438
- Serving meals monthly at the Grace Episcopal Porchlight Men's Shelter: serving breakfast and dinner monthly
- Our Dinner Coordinator is Henry Hagedorn (lenehhh@gmail.com)
- Our Breakfast Coordinator is Mary Niederehe, 274-3184
As a part of our Outreach Offering, FUS collects funds for the Eviction Prevention Fund. 100% of your donations to the Eviction Prevention Fund provide direct assistance to people who are at risk for homeless or who are escaping the grips of homelessness.
