Environmental Action

The temple bell stops.
But the sound keeps coming
out of the flowers.

The Environmental Action Initiative is currently exploring Food Waste as a Study-Action Issue

First Unitarian Society has been a certified green sanctuary since 2006. The Green Sanctuary Designation means that FUS has completed the UUA’s Green Sanctuary. We live out our commitment to the Earth by creating sustainable lifestyles for our faith community and its members. We are committed to creating a religious community that has a fundamental commitment with living in harmony with the Earth. To learn more about Green Sanctuary status, including downloading the Green Sanctuary Manual, click here.

Our current focus is on Food Waste and implementing the Ethical Eating Statement of Conscience passed at this year's GA.

Our five broad goals are to:

  • Build a connection between spiritual practice and environmental consciousness;
  • Challenge and work to heal environmental injustices.
  • Build awareness of environmental issues;
  • Encourage personal lifestyle changes; and
  • Motivate community action on environmental issues.

Please contact Liz Wessell (608-238-9934) or Linda Olsen (608-836-1779) for more information.
